Michael Hutchence Biopic Sets Writer/Producer Team

The heartfelt novelized life journey of legendary INXS front man, Michael Hutchence, has ended a decade-long search for a screenwriter and production team to bring the story to screen.

The film will be an adaptation of the book Just A Man -The Real Michael Hutchence - first released in 2000 and written by Hutchence’s sister, Tina Hutchence, and now deceased, mother Patricia Glassop. It chronicles the shooting star’s journey from talented young child in a complicated family, through to the formation of INXS, his trials and tribulations with scores of famous women; to his suicide in a Sydney hotel room in 1997.

Australian Writer/Producer Robert Lewis Galinsky (DUST AND GLORY) is writing the screenplay and Executive Producing the project with Producers Trevor Ray Field and Suzy Markovski. Field obtained exclusive rights to the novel which Galinsky describes as “a heartfelt look at the man, who was not only one of the most charismatic singers of our time, but also, a father, a brother, and a son, rather than an exploitative sex, drugs, rock and roll, type of story, which would have been the cheap and nasty route.”

“I feel that we have material that can be as expansive as Ray or Walk The Line and attract the level of cast and director that can create that level of excitement and excellence Michael’s memory deserves,” said Galinsky.

“There are a couple of other projects floating around out there but this is one that will stand on its own two legs. For Michael’s fans as well as people who just want to see an astonishingly powerful albeit brief life chronicled on film,” he said.
Galinsky echoed Field’s sentiments on the timing as “this film’s intention is to honour the memory of Michael, and many will be thinking of Michael today; we thought the date to be appropriate for bringing his memory back to life.’’

The project commences on the eve of the 15th anniversary of Hutchence’s death, 22nd November, and is expected to go to cast and director early 2013.
